We take online safety seriously at Freshwater, and seek to provide safe online environments both at school and at home. Students who have concerns about their online safety or believe they are the victim of Cyberbullying are encouraged to contact their teacher and/or a member of our Pastoral Care team for support and assistance.
Remember that all comments, photos or videos posted on the internet today may stay available on the internet for years or decades. Don't post or say something that you will regret because it could be online "forever and a day".
Be a good online citizen and never write or post anything that you know would be disrespectful, vindictive, slanderious, or otherwise be considered bullying. You woudn't want this done to you, so please treat others as you would like to be treated. There are also both state and Federal laws governing all forms of workplace, schoolyard or cyberbullying, which you could run afoul of.
Always inform your teacher(s) or parent(s) if you come across anything online that makes you feel uncomfortable, or that you consider to be bullying against yourself or another student.
Never post private information such as your phone number or address on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, or any other online forum, app, or site.
Immediately inform your parents and/or a teacher if someone asks for your private contact information or details online, or those of another student or minor.
Never agree to meet a "friend" that you have met online or any social media apps or games. This is very unwise, and could prove to have dire consequences for you and others.
Freshwater Christian College takes a very strong stance against cyberbullying of all types. We are committed both to educating students to use technology with wisdom and discernment, while also protecting our students from immoral, illegal or damaging actions by themselves or others, either knowingly or unknowingly. This is done through education, on-site and off-site web filtering and alerts, as well as counselling and disciplinary strategies where necessary.
If you would like to speak to someone about cyberbullying issues, we encourage you to first discuss the matter with your parent(s), your teacher(s), the relevant College Head of School (Primary or Secondary), and/or the Pastor Care Team.
There are also resources provided by the Australian Federal Government and other organisations to assist you in learning more about the best ways to address cyberbullying for yourself or others:
The Kids Helpline is available on 1800-55-1800 as well as online at the Kids Helpline website.
Help and advice is also available through ThinkUKnow, a partnership between the Australian Federal Police and Microsoft.
Reporting of cyberbullying can be made through the "Complaints and Reporting" section of the eSafety Website provided by the Australian Federal eSafety Commissioner.
